Our mission is simple: Build the artistic literacies and creative capacities of the nation through interactive, arts-centered learning experiences. As the Learning Media team of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, we work at the intersection of technology, the arts, and learning, designing projects that bring the resources of the Center to a national audience. Our primary goal is to increase literacies in all the arts: dance, visual arts, music, theater, and media arts—for young people, the people who teach them, and the communities and organizations that support them. We produce innovative, accessible learning experiences with an emphasis on creation, production, and reflection, bringing the arts to our country’s young people in unique, evocative, and inspiring ways. We champion the idea that the arts are pathways to learning about and better understanding the world around us. Through a range of creative learning projects and digitally-connected live events, we work to inspire participation in three areas of culture, creative, and civic life: › Arts + Innovation Examining the connection between imagination, invention, and the arts—how artists, designers, and engineers engage in a continual cycle of experimentation with the tools, systems, processes, and boundaries of art and art making. › Creative Careers Supporting the college, career, and life paths of young people who aspire to careers in the arts and creative industries. › Creative Citizenship Working to provide young people with the platform, contexts, and opportunities to learn how they can change the world through their own creative action. Through ARTSEDGE.org and on other channels like iTunes and YouTube, we deliver free resources designed to help people construct new knowledge, develop a passion for the arts, and think critically about creative expression and action.
