About IICA

The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) is the specialized agricultural agency of the Inter-American System that supports the efforts of its Member States to achieve agricultural development and rural well-being. Since , IICA has provided international technical cooperation of excellence, responding in a timely manner to the new challenges and opportunities of the agricultural sector, with the aim of achieving an increasingly inclusive, competitive and sustainable agriculture. Agriculture in the Americas has the potential to become a true engine of development, capable of generating economic growth and prosperity for the populations of that region. Unlocking the potential of the agricultural sector is crucial to solving one of humanity's greatest challenges: achieving food security. Our roadmap is based on five hemispheric programs: • Bioeconomy and Productive Development • Territorial Development and Family Agriculture • International Trade and Regional Integration • Climate Change, Natural Resources and Productive Risk Management • Agricultural Health, Food Safety and Quality Axes transversal: • Gender and youth • Innovation and technology We also act through: • Projects financed with external resources from various partners, in which IICA assumes technical or administrative management. • Rapid response actions in the face of temporary situations, in which IICA mobilizes its technical capabilities to meet a specific demand from a member country. • Pre-investment initiatives, aimed at obtaining and mobilizing complementary financial resources. The General Directorate is the executive body of IICA. It is made up of the technical and administrative units through which institutional activities are coordinated and executed. The General Director is Dr. Manuel Otero, of Argentine nationality, elected for the period.
