The General Organization for Social Insurance is considered one of the institutions with legal personality and financial and administrative independence that provides social protection and the insurance umbrella in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It covers civil and military state employees, workers in the private sector, and workers on wages in the government sector. It implements the social insurance system, its branches, its executive regulations, and the two regulations. Civil and military retirement in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in accordance with the regulations and regulatory arrangements issued in this regard. It is applied obligatorily to all Saudi military and civilian employees appointed to ranks in state budgets and the budgets of public bodies and to all Saudi workers working in establishments in the private sector in the Kingdom, and it is optionally applied to self-employed workers. The institution also serves beneficiaries of the two systems of mutual benefit and the system of extending insurance protection to citizens of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. Where Cabinet Resolution No. (dated / e) was issued merging the “General Retirement Institution” into the “General Institution for Social Insurance” in accordance with the arrangements contained therein, including that the General Institution for Social Insurance replaces the General Retirement Institution, in all its responsibilities, powers, rights and obligations. And so on, and all the assets of the General Retirement Organization of all kinds are transferred to it. This is with the aim of unifying work in order to achieve the appropriate environment and method necessary to reach the optimal application of insurance and retirement systems and develop its resources in a way that is compatible with its nature and the scope of its current and future obligations and in a way that reflects positively on its clients. The retirement and social insurance systems in the Kingdom aim to provide a decent life for retirees and their families after they leave work due to retirement, disability, or death. The system also provides medical care and the necessary compensation in cases of work-related injuries or occupational disability. Through the Occupational Hazards Branch, which is applied obligatorily to all workers in the Saudi labor market, both Saudis and non-Saudis, the system also provides care for the Saudi worker who left work due to circumstances beyond his control through the payment of compensation (Sand, training, job search).
