FTD was born in Brazil, in , expanding the activities of the Marist Brothers who were in the country since directing several schools. FTD is a tribute to Frère Théophane Durand, Superior General of the Marist Congregation between the years of and . During his administration, he encouraged the Brothers to write school books for other subjects. These books became part of the collection, which was called the FTD Textbook Collection. His attitude gave enormous encouragement to the production of didactic works for all disciplines and left its mark on the professionalization of Marists as educators and the expansion of this great work. More than years of thinking far beyond books and the classroom inspired in FTD a movement to embrace an even greater commitment: to transform society through Education, with the desire to think beyond and see Education as a moment that inspires discovery, choice, freedom and citizenship.
