Revelio Labs founder and CEO Ben Zweig published an opinion piece in TIME examining how the Trump administration's proposed $100,000 annual H-1B visa fee could affect American businesses and their ability to recruit highly skilled workers.

In “American Workers Will Pay the Price for New H-1B Visa Fees,” published October 23, 2025, Zweig argues that restricting access to international talent could push jobs overseas and weaken US competitiveness.

Why access to skilled talent matters

Drawing on his experience building Revelio Labs, Zweig describes how the proposed fee would make sponsoring highly skilled foreign employees financially impractical for many companies.

He points to a machine learning engineer hired at Revelio Labs with a starting salary of $85,000, less than the proposed annual visa fee.

Zweig argues that when businesses cannot find the specialized skills they need domestically, restricting international hiring may limit their ability to expand in the United States.
