We as the Ministry of Justice and Security (JenV) work for that society every day. Policy and practice, together with our partners The central government ensures effective policy and good legislation and regulations. With thousands of enthusiastic colleagues throughout the Netherlands, we then apply this in practice in the many parts and services of JenV. Just think of the Judicial Institutions Service (the prisons) or the Immigration and Naturalization Service. In addition to our colleagues, numerous people from other governments, companies and institutions work side by side with us on a fair and safe Netherlands. That is also necessary, only together can we solve the complicated issues we face every day. We are always looking for balance in our work. For example, between the rights of victims and suspects, or between safety and privacy. These are difficult decisions, and if possible, we like to show why we make certain choices. For example, what is involved in the decision on an asylum application? How does an investigator from the Child Protection Council determine what is going on in a family? We are working hard on a safe, fair Netherlands. With results: in recent years, our country has consistently ranked at the top of European and worldwide independent studies into indicators of a well-functioning, secure constitutional state.
