Hiring and Attrition: September 2026
Summary
In September, the US hiring rate declined 0.6 percentage points, from 20.0% to 19.4%. The decline in hiring was driven by sharper slowdowns in Health Care and Social Assistance, Information, and Utilities, which fell -1.5pp, -1.0pp, and -0.9pp, respectively. While hiring remains weak, the national rate of attrition also eased, declining 0.7 percentage points from 19.7% to 19.0%. The largest increase in attrition was seen in the Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing and Hunting industry while the biggest decline was in Utilities.
