Our recent work for Recruiter.com provided a deeper dive into the market for hiring Recruiters in 2021. By tracking the headcount of recruiters at more than 12,000 public companies, we found that growth of Recruiter roles has outpaced other roles in 2021. While there was a notable decline during the onset of the pandemic, growth for these roles has more than recovered.

Headcount Change for Recruiters and Other Roles

Next, we use our skills taxonomy to track how common skills of recruiters evolved over time. Since 2018, HR-specific skills have been surpassed by management skills. During this time of immense growth for recruitment roles, it seems that there was also a shift in the most common skills necessary for these roles.

Skills of Recruiters

Key Takeaways:

  • 2021 seems to be the year to recruit recruiters. Hiring rates have skyrocketed, along with salaries in job postings. Recruiter positions also had the largest increase in salaries in 2021 after adjusting for inflation.
  • Headcount growth of recruiters at public companies has outpaced the average of all other roles in 2021, according to our data analytics tools.
  • In terms of skills, it seems like emphasis has shifted from “recruitment” specific skills to “management” skills, we show with the Revelio Labs skills taxonomy.
