Founded in 1967, University of Illinois Mile Square Health Center (Mile Square) is one of the oldest federally qualified health centers in Chicago and the nation, providing high-quality, comprehensive health care for thousands of Chicago area adults and children for almost 50 years. Access to excellent care for all patients, regardless of ability to pay, has been the hallmark of our organization. Mile Square has health clinics in the communities where it’s needed the most and provides care for families at every stage of life. We care for over 40,000 people a year - whether or not they can pay for it. No matter your race, religion, or income, you can get care from one of the most respected health systems in the country. Mile Square makes getting health care as easy and comfortable as possible. Much of what we do is primary care, which means we offer continuous, essential day-to-day healthcare for our patients providing acute and chronic physical, mental, and social health care. However, we provide urgent and immediate care with extended hours on weekends and during the holidays; at times needed by families. We are patient advocates, our Community Health Specialist and Navigators will help you with making appointments, follow-up visits and appropriately refer you when needed. Our mission is to provide holistic, quality health services in the midst of an underserved, urban community. The concept of holistic services includes not only actions to restore health, but also to prevent disease, promote healthy lifestyles and provide personalized support to individuals and families. Community education, outreach, advocacy, and caring involvement are important attributes of our mission.
