The National Institute of Social Security (INSS) is a Managing Entity whose generic competence extends to the management and administration of the economic benefits of the Social Security System, with the exception of those whose management is attributed to the Institute of Seniors and Social Services. or to the competent services of the Autonomous Communities. Specifically, the National Social Security Institute has the following powers, among others: recognition and control of the right to economic benefits granted by the Social Security System in its contributory modality, without prejudice to the powers attributed to the Public Service of State Employment, in terms of unemployment protection benefits and to the Social Institute of the Navy in relation to the Special Regime for Sea Workers, recognition and control of the right to economic allowance for dependent children, and single payments for birth or adoption of a child in cases of large, single-parent families and in cases of mothers with disabilities, or due to multiple birth or adoption, recognition of the right to health care, minimum vital income, international relations of an institutional nature and negotiation and execution of International Social Security Agreements, management and operation of the Registry of Public Social Benefits, management of economic and social benefits for toxic syndrome
